Celebrating chapel renovation in San Angelo

On Feb. 6, residents and community leaders gathered at Baptist Retirement Community to celebrate the renovated Elsie Gayer Chapel. The renovations include new flooring, paint, window blinds, lighting, foyer updates and a new AV system.

The renovation was possible thanks to a $115,000 grant from the Art and Eva Camuñez Tucker Foundation.Baptist Retirement Community, a Buckner Retirement Services senior living community, is a faith-based nonprofit community located on an 100-acre campus in San Angelo, Texas. The community offers a continuum of care including indepent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing. The celebration event started at 2 p.m. with a program featuring Aaron Hargett, senior executive director of BRC; Kevin McSpadden, chaplain at BRC; and Dr. Albert Reyes, president and CEO of Buckner International, the faith-based nonprofit that manages the community through its ministry, Buckner Retirement Services.

In addition to residents and associates with BRC and Buckner, the event was attended by past and present members of the Buckner International board of trustees, representatives of the Tucker Foundation, Angelo State University, and local churches, as well as Texas Representative Drew Darby and District 3 City Councilman Harry Thomas.

The relationship between the Tucker Foundation and BRC dates back to 1999 when the foundation helped support the construction of Sagecrest, BRC’s memory care residences.

The Tucker Foundation also provides funding support for the Catholic Church and its related charities, as well as for San Angelo-area charitable, scientific, literacy or educational organizations.

“Today we give our deepest thanks to our friends with the Art and Eva Camuñez Tucker Foundation who have supported the growth and development of Baptist Retirement Community for 25 years,” Hargett said. “As a faith-based senior living community, the Elsie Gayer Chapel is part of the heart of our community, providing a place for prayer, worship and fellowship.”
